In 1984 I was in high school and was asked to play a Mardi Gras Day parade in Gretna, LA. I was told a trombonist named Brian O’Neill would be in the band and that he was “a really big deal” (as Ron Burgundy would say). I was pumped but didn’t know what to expect. [...]
