On March 23rd, 2008, the Bonerama ship set sail from Taos, NM bound for the Iowa City Yacht Club. As they crossed Nebraska, pirates attacked! After an opening set by Chinese Fingertrap, the Iowa City Yacht Club welcomed Bonerama and it’s ship of fools to their fine port. The opening minute of the “bonerized” Thelonius Monk classic Epistrophy is soaking wet, but gets it’s land legs pretty quick before diving back into The Ocean. After the flood receded, Craig Klein pointed out that we “Lost [Our] House,” but at least we’ve still got our Rugalator. Chilcock was something solid to stand on, but Folly took everyone back to the beach for some fun in the sun. While on land, the band instructed every one to Hang Up The Phone And Drive due to the overwhelming amount of Crosstown Traffic. They stopped off to say hello to Louie at Louie’s Perch before launching into the always excellent Meters Medley. After teasing the crowd with the rare short version of Frankenstein, the dock hands and ship-yard mates of the Iowa City Yacht Club gave it up hard, hard, hard for Bonerama which encouraged them to play a double encore. When My Dreamboat Comes Home kept the nautical theme going until it was time to pull up the anchor and sail on to Christiania. Overall, Iowa City is a fine port.

Bonerama hit the ground running with Peaches en Regalia. So fast, in fact, that you can hear sound caresser Danny Bourgeois scrambling to catch up at the start of the song. True to his form, Danny has things sounding great right away, just in time for Bert Cotton’s channeling of Frank Zappa during the guitar solo. Mr. Craig Klein told us that Mr. Go’s gotta go. Yer Blues, The Mouse, and Manic Depression are solid examples of how quickly Bonerama can pick up momentum in the middle of the set. Hang Up The Phone And Drive gets a warm reception everywhere the Bones play it. The show-stopper of the night, though, was War Pigs. Brian Stoltz joined Bert Cotton on guitar and Russell Batiste joined Eric Bolivar on a second drum kit for a fiery take on the Black Sabbath classic.

Bonerama and Porter Batiste Stoltz combined forces for this special show over Thanksgiving weekend in Denver, CO. It was only the 3rd time that the bands had played together. Listen to the big sound of four Bonerama horns jamming with George Porter, Jr. on bass AND Matt Perrine on sousaphone, Russell Batiste AND Eric Bolivar on drums, Brian Stoltz AND Bert Cotton on guitar. Setlist highlights include powerful versions of the yet-to-be released Earl and the MOODOO favorite I Get High. Frankenstein had a monster (pun intended) jam that we have aptly titled the Denver Jam. Meters fans will be happy to hear the Mark Mullins arranged Meters Medley in addition to a great take on Name Up In Lights. Who knows if/when it will happen again, so make sure to get your ears on this gem.

On March 21st, 2008, Bonerama arrived in Telluride, CO to play at the historic Sheridan Opera House. Just another stop in the middle of what was a run of 15 shows in 17 days, this show stands out. Some nights there’s a certain energy in the room that affects the crowd and the band in a special way. This was one of those nights. The first set is a complete rampage with psychedelic undertones that peak during “Frankenstein” in what we’ve aptly titled the “Telluride Jam.” Most of the band left the stage to give Matt Perrine and Eric Bolivar some room to work. It wasn’t until nearly 7 minutes had passed that the Bones re-emerged to finish “Frankenstein.” It was a night of wild visuals from Lighting Director Tony Caporale as well as a night of “FX” pedals for Mark Mullins, Bert Cotton, and Matt Perrine. Never underestimate the power of the Rockies!
