Tipitina’s…..NOLA….Black and Gold Kickoff Party….9-17-11

Hi there BoneHeads,

A couple days late with this setlist/blog about the show at Tip’s this past Saturday. It had to sink in a day or so as to what happened. It was Bonerama with the Supa Fans, who are fans who dress up and go to the games. We like to dress up in N.O. anyway. You might see me in a dress on Mardi Gras Day, but that’s another story. The Supa Fans are people like the Whistle Monsta, Abdul the Tent Maker, Mr. High Five the 3 Popes, the Transformer Dude and lots more. Its a fan on another level. Also a part of the show were the Ying Yang Twins, the guys who did “Stand Up and Get Crunked,” which is an anthem from the Super Bowl win 2 years ago (Hey, that’s our Super Bowl trophy. I know, it’s the Lombardi trophy).

Tip’s was packed and we had our black and gold on, but Mark was also on the Supa Fan level (See the pic and you’ll understand). We started our set hitting it pretty hard. Joe Ashlar on keys added that extra touch plus we had Uncle Gerry, David Phy and Asher Ross adding more trombone to the stage. All killer players who can play along like they know the music. After awhile the Ying Yang Twins came up and they did a couple of their hits with their own track. We came up after that and did “Crunked” with them. I don’t think they ever played with a live band before. They kept staring at the trombones. There isn’t much Bone in Hip Hop. Should be. That was funny. After “Crunked” jammed out for some time we jumped into “The Ocean” with one of the Twins, I think it was Mr. Ying, who came back up and did some chanting on top of what we were playing. Quite interesting and fun.

A couple hours later black and gold was dripping out the door. Do I have to say that it was then on Sunday the Saints beat up the Bears.

We head back into the studio on Wednesday to get working on the record. Also rehearsing with Dave Malone (Radiators) for a show next week called Harvest The Music concert series in Lafayette Square. Really looking forward to that. We’ll also be at Voodoo Experience with Dave on October 30th.
