New York update…… :>)

I’m still laughing from last night.  We had so many fabulous musicians come out to Sullivan Hall last night.  It was ridiculous.  Let me see if I can remember, there were so many great moments like when Krasno and Bert were trading back and forth on some funky guitar riff on Louie’s Perch.  I think the set list below will be accurate on who sat in when and what songs they played.  Steven Bernstien from Sex Mob, sat in on  a slide trumpet, which looked liked a premie trombone, and he played it like a maniac.  His solo on Chilcock was crazy.  The great N.Y. trombone player, Robin Eubanks, who plays with everybody, also came up on the first set and stayed the whole night adding some tasty bone playing.  We enjoyed taking it from a tri-bonal band to a quadri-bonal one even for just one night.  Hearing those pedal notes come from his horn reminded me of our boy Brian O’Neil, who we still truly miss.

Our good friend, Ned Goold from our Harry Connick Jr. days, came by and played the whole 2nd set adding his  great musical Nedisms on curved soprano sax.  He knows just what to play at just the right time.  A wonderful musician with the truest American musical persona.

Nigel Hall, who is a killer piano player and singer, played keys.  He’s a bad mf and is playing with us tonight in Baltimore (Joe had to go back to NO to do a couple Good Enough For Good Times shows.  He comes back on Sunday).  Nigel is super funky and has this amazing voice.  He sang Movin On Up, Donnie Hathaway style last night and yes it was.

Brian Haas (piano) and Josh Raymer (drums) from the Jacob Fred Jazz Oddessy played Whipping Post and Brian took his solo to the outer stratosphere.   Eric B was pushing him big time and was on Fire last night with some amazing drum playing.  There was a conga player, Johnny Durkin, at one point.  Oh, and 3 guitar players, Adam Smirrnoff put some tasty touches between  Bert and Krasno’s guitar’s.  Wait, there was a dancer on stage to.  It’s all coming back to me now…..hahahaaa

It was a very fun night, which was over with way to quickly (we played till about 2:30).  Not quite as long as Bruce played at Giants Stadium last night (4 hours), but long enough to have puffy lips from blowing the trombone for a few hours straight.  We  had some friends who came to our second set after the Bruce concert and they are from N.O. who came up for his show.  The Bonerama show was lagniape……hahaaa.  Much thanks to our good friend Greg Aiello, who brought half the musicians by last night.  The Threadheads who are an institution in itself with a very passionate music community.  Also, many thanks to the people who  come out to our shows, especially the ones who come back each week because they know they are going to hear something different every time and expect it. Yall ALL are the inspiration behind us doing what we do.  You are the enablers and we love and appreciate you very much.

THANK YOU!

FYI….people don’t pay to see Dancers on stage. They pay for the music……;) I have heard that more than once from people……….
